Orthodontic Dentistry

When you think of orthodontics, you might envision a teenager with a mouthful of metal. The latest advances in orthodontics have made that image a thing of the past. Braces come in a variety of materials and are used increasingly by adults.

We are pleased to offer this highly specialized dental service at our clinic. We use some of the most advanced orthodontic/orthopedic approaches to treat our patients. We pay attention not only to the alignment of the teeth but also to the health of the muscles, ligaments and bony structures to maintain long term stability and health in the entire dento-facial apparatus.

Orthodontics and Teeth Alignment

Orthodontic treatment is used to correct problems of excessive space between teeth and crooked or crowded teeth. This therapy is also used to correct overbites, underbites and crossbites. The therapy usually involves the use of braces to create spaces or reshape the teeth and jaws.

Orthodontics and Aesthetics

Many adults are also discovering the difference that improved alignment can make to the appearance of their smiles. The use of braces to improve the look of a smile is gaining in popularity. With newer materials, braces are less visible than ever before!

What is the procedure of an orthodontic treatment?

Orthodontic treatment follows a structured process designed to safely move teeth and correct bite issues. Here is a clear, step-by-step breakdown of what typically happens:

1. Initial Consultation — Your orthodontist assesses your teeth, bite, and overall oral health to determine whether orthodontic treatment is appropriate.

2. Treatment Planning / Ortho Records — Detailed records are taken, including X-rays, photographs, and digital scans or impressions. These are used to design a customized treatment plan.

3. Appliance Placement — Braces, clear aligners, or other orthodontic appliances are fitted. Your orthodontist will explain how to care for them and what to expect.

4. Adjustment and Monitoring Visits — Regular appointments are scheduled throughout treatment to make adjustments, monitor progress, and ensure teeth are moving as planned.

5. Removal of Braces / Completion — Once your teeth have reached their ideal positions and the bite is corrected, your appliances are removed.

6. Retention Phase (Very Important) — A retainer is provided to hold your teeth in their new positions. Skipping this phase can allow teeth to shift back over time, so wearing your retainer as directed is essential for maintaining your results long-term.

Who would benefit from orthodontic treatments?

Children with mature teeth and adults of any age can experience orthodontic treatment. Orthodontic treatments are meant to correct crowded teeth, crooked teeth, misaligned teeth, or bites.

Do you offer Invisalign?

Yes! Invisalign is a teeth-straightening treatment that gradually uses a series of clear plastic aligners to shift your teeth into place. These are almost invisible and snugly fit around your teeth. It is an excellent option for people who want a corrected smile but don’t want to wear metal braces.
